Beliefs:
Prior to becoming an Nashville architect, I spent time in various construction jobs which gave me practical construction experience, and an understanding of how to communicate with the craftspeople who build my designs. as a Nashville Architect I’ve learned that clear, concise construction drawings and being available for questions during construction makes the building process flow smoothly and helps insure the finished building is true to the original design.I established my firm as a small boutique business so I could be personally involved with each client in order to help them fulfill their dreams. I have found that the best solutions come from listening to and collaborating with my clients, contractors and other team members.
Philosophy:
“Tabula Rasa: an absence of preconceived ideas” is a term that sums up my approach to design pretty well. I feel that every client is unique and every project should be too. After listening to my clients and becoming comfortable that I understand their goals, I challenge them to consider options until we create the design that works best for them. We explore how to approach the building and it’s relationship to the site. We study how people will move through the building and how furniture will fit in every room. Along the way, I incorporate various principles of design such as Fung Shui and Vaastu, as well as traditional principles of proportion and rhythm to create spaces that are comfortable and pleasing to be in.
Life Lessons:
Regardless of style, I’ve learned to draw from local architectural traditions so that each building can respond gracefully to it’s climate, be more energy efficient and complement it’s surroundings. Updated technology such as insulation, high performance.
Personal Service:
Heating and cooling systems and low maintenance materials can be combined with local traditions to create truly sustainable, long lasting and beautiful buildings. Since every project and client is unique, I tailor my services from consultation only to design and basic construction drawings, to detailed drawings and being involved every step of the way through construction and afterward as needed.
