How Scott Wilson Architect
helps you
Because we are a small studio, we are able to spend time with each of our clients and often develop special relationships as a result. It has been our experience that these relationships create in us a desire to make sure our clients are happy and have a great experience during the time spent with us. We like to take a personal interest in our clients and strive to help them consider every aspect of the building process in order to provide them with the information they need to make their building process a successful and enjoyable one.
“Tabula Rasa: beginning each project with a clean slate and an absence of preconceived ideas” is a philosophy that sums up our approach to design pretty well. We feel that every client is unique and every project should be too. After listening to our clients and becoming comfortable that we understand their goals, we challenge them to consider options until we create the design that works best for them. We explore how to approach the building and it’s relationship to the site. We study how people will move through the building and how furniture, artwork, etc. will fit in every room and how that may evolve over time. We incorporate time tested principles of design and proportion to ensure that the spaces we design will feel inviting and comfortable for our clients to inhabit.
Our History
Since our beginning in 1986 the focus of Scott Wilson Architect, LLC has been based on the belief that great architecture responds to our client’s needs in a manner respectful of its neighbors. We design modern buildings that embrace traditional principles of architecture to provide intimate spaces in which to live and work. Energy efficiency, Healthy materials, reduced maintenance and environmentally sensitive strategies have been an integral part of this approach. Each project is designed in response to it’s unique site, budget and personality of the client. This philosophy is reflected in the firm’s diverse portfolio and has led to many great relationships and repeat clients. Recent projects include primary residences and renovations, vacation homes, clubhouses, historical renovations, and various unique commercial buildings.
About Scott Wilson
I began my architectural journey at a young age and began working various construction jobs until my first job as an intern architect in 1982.
Prior to becoming an architect, I spent time in various construction jobs which gave me practical construction experience, and an understanding of how to communicate with the craftspeople who build my designs. My time in the field has also given me a greater knowledge of how buildings go together which helps me design buildings that are efficient and cost effective to build. From that early start I developed a passion for small projects which has allowed me to be involved with every facet of design and construction.
I established my firm as a small studio to be personally involved with each client in order to help them fulfill their dreams. I have found that the best solutions come from listening to and collaborating with my clients, contractors and other team members. I’ve had the privilege to work with so many wonderful people since establishing Scott Wilson Architect, LLC in 1986 that I continue to look forward to every new project and the opportunity to help people create places to live and work in that actually respond to, and influence their lives in a positive way.

Our Process
The design process is only the beginning of a project and we’ve learned that successful execution requires communication. We strive to make sure our construction drawings are accurate and provide the information needed by the construction team. We design buildings to work with material sizes to reduce waste and make construction more intuitive for the crews. Every set of drawings goes through several quality control reviews before we release them. This reduces the amount of questions, corrections and downtime once the construction process begins.
Throughout the construction process, I’ve learned that clear, concise communication and being available for questions makes the building process flow smoothly and helps insure the finished building is true to the original design. We are able to free up our Client’s time and reduce their stress by being part of the build team to handle the day to day conversations, questions and decisions that are needed along the way.

Plan
Every project begins with a site visit to see the characteristics that will influence the design of the building. A meeting to discuss client needs, goals, timelines, budgets and style preferences is next.

Design
The design phase begins with a presentation of designs that allow our clients to explore options and decide what ideas work best for them. This is typically done via hand sketches which enables us to quickly explore ideas and keeps the process flexible.

Final Details
Once the concept is in place, we move to the computer which enables us to fine tune the design and see the building in 3D, which allows our clients to better visualize how their project will look and perform.
